When it comes to a private junior high school education, students shouldn’t have to compromise on extracurriculars. Starting in 6th grade, our students can pick from an array of elective courses and clubs to broaden their horizons, explore new interests, and prepare themselves for future academic and professional success.
Digital Art I
- Digital Art will explore many facets of making art using technology. Students will learn to use digital tools to create original illustrations, as well as to edit and adjust photographs. Students will learn the interface of Google Drawings and Photoshop. We will cover the main drawing tools, such as brush settings, selection tools, rulers and guides, color balance, transform tool, and hue/saturation settings. Students will also learn many shortcut commands to work efficiently.
Digital Art II
- Digital Art II will continue to explore facets of making art using technology. Students will learn the basics of video editing, including cuts, montages, and working with a timeline. Students will use these skills to tell meaningful and interesting stories using video. Students will also learn the basics of animation. Students will learn how to get started with 3D modeling, lighting, animation, and rendering. MUST have completed Digital Art I before selecting Digital Art II.
Boss Club I
- Boss Club is a Christian entrepreneurship elective where students will learn the basics of entrepreneurship by creating a business. This course also emphasizes what God has to say about work ethic, financial stewardship, and how we can be used in the Kingdom. During this course, students will select, design, launch, and track marketing and sales of their own business.
Boss Club II
- Boss Club II is an extension of Boss Club I. Students will continue growing the business they started in Boss Club I. During this course, students will build revenue and learn marketing techniques to grow their business beyond friends and family. We will discuss how to build a team, raise money, create resumes, and build an audience for repeat purchases.
Journalism
- This course introduces students to the foundational elements of journalism, including news
writing, interviewing, editing, and publishing. Students will explore the role of the journalist in
society and how Christian values such as truth, integrity, justice, and compassion align with
responsible reporting.
World Language
- All students will take a World Language. Students in Jr. High have the option to take Spanish classes with live instruction or pursue an online foreign language immersion class. Online languages include Latin, Russian, French, Mandarin Chinese, and German. Students are provided a headset with microphone. Students in the online foreign language program must show self-motivation to ensure success in this program.
Yearbook Club
- Students can help build their year-end keepsake and learn computer and photo editing skills at the same time!
Home Economics
- Who's hungry? In this hands-on course, students will learn the basics of cooking, baking, meal planning, and sewing to gain independence. Kitchen safety, tools, measurements and conversions, budgeting, and recipe reading, will be learned, followed by a meal planning/implementation project that you will practice with your family.
Study Skills
- Get a jump start on Junior high. In this elective, students will learn how to develop their organizational skills to be a successful student. Organizational skills include utilizing planners, systems for locker organization, effective homework habits, test taking strategies, and managing projects. Being prepared for the upcoming week and will be a vital part of the learning experience. This class helps provide accountability and establish strategies for a lifetime of successful learning. This class is recommended for incoming 6th graders and any other student that would like to improve their study skills.
Vocal/Instrumental Combo 1
- Students enrolling in this class have already auditioned and been accepted. Only those who were notified of acceptance before the school year ended should enroll in this class.
In this class, students will learn to use their applied instrument in a group setting. While this is not a technique class, students will grow in musical proficiency, taking feedback and applying it, and will also learn about creating a setlist, choosing keys, adapting musical styles, and creating the atmosphere for events.
7th & 8th grade students in this class are also required to attend chapels they are leading.
Concert Choir
- No prerequisite required.
Students will learn a fun and challenging vocal repertoire to be performed at their Spring Concert.
Attendance at the Spring Concert is required.
Material will focus on vocalization, harmony, pitch, and musical literacy.
Robotics
- In this engaging elective, students will dive into the world of programming using Dash robots and the Make Wonder robotics platform. Through hands-on exploration and interactive challenges, they will develop a strong foundation in coding, problem-solving, and logical thinking. By the end of the course, students will not only understand the fundamentals of programming but will also be well-prepared to transition into JavaScript programming, equipping them with essential skills for more advanced coding experiences.
Intro to Drawing
- Ready to unlock your inner artist? This introductory drawing course invites junior high and high school students to explore foundational techniques while developing their own creative voice. Through engaging exercises and step-by-step instruction, students will build confidence using line, shape, shading, and perspective. Whether you're just beginning or sharpening your skills, this class is your gateway to a lifelong love of drawing.
Use of Paper in Art
- Discover the surprising versatility of paper as an expressive medium! In this dynamic elective, students will explore techniques such as collage, papier-mâché, origami, relief sculpture, and experimental forms that push the boundaries of two- and three-dimensional design. This course invites creative risk-taking while introducing historical and contemporary paper artists who have transformed humble sheets into powerful works of art. Come fold, tear, layer, and sculpt your way into a whole new world of creativity.
Ceramics 1
- Students will create and appreciate expressive, beautiful three- and one-dimensional clay forms. They will be introduced to clay, where it comes from, how it is formed, how it is gathered, and methods for forming clay objects: pinching, coiling, and hand-built practices.
Ceramics 2
- In Ceramics 2, we will explore hand-building techniques and learn how to create unique designs and textures. Students will be introduced to all basic aspects of sculptural and functional pottery. We will explore using mixed media material (paper, found objects) in order to create unique clay compositions.
Speech and Debate I
- God calls us to take His Word to the ends of the earth. Therefore, as Christians, it is essential to understand the art of communication. Speech and Debate I introduces students to the basics of public speaking and debating. Participants will learn key speaking components and common debate tactics and fallacies. Each class will bring an opportunity to practice the skills learned from various speeches and debate topics.
Speech and Debate II (7th and 8th Grade Only)
Critical thinking and persuasive presentation are practiced as students learn to argue the merits of a court case. Using acquired skills from Speech and Debate, participants will engage in trial simulations. Students will have the opportunity to understand our court system as attorneys, witnesses, plaintiffs, and defendants.
STEAM learning in junior high ignites curiosity and builds confidence by blending science, technology, engineering, art, and math into hands‑on, real‑world problem‑solving. Students learn to think creatively, collaborate effectively, and approach challenges with resilience. These experiences not only strengthen academic skills but also help students discover their passions and develop the innovative mindset they’ll carry into high school and beyond.
In EQUIP, Calvary Church ministries partner with CCS to provide our junior high school students with an extraordinary opportunity to explore the many facets of church ministry. Students take classes in Communication/Creative Arts, Kids Ministry, Youth Ministry, Mental Health, IT (Informational Technology), Production Ministry, Worship Ministry, Discipleship and Finance. Students hear staff testimonies of how they came to Christ, recognized the gifts God had given them, and how they now use those gifts to serve others. It is a phenomenal week!
